Massage Therapy for Stress Management

By David McQuillan

Massage therapy is a fantastic stress reduction option for many people.

Joan Borysenko, a medical scientist and co-founder of the Mind/Body Clinic at Harvard Medical school has been quoted as saying (Borysenko, 1999 as cited in Parker, 2006)…

“Often times people are stressed in our culture. Stress-related disorders make up between 80-and-90 percent of the ailments that bring people to family-practice physicians. What they require is someone to listen, someone to touch them, someone to care. That does not exist in modern medicine. One of the complaints heard frequently is that physicians don’t touch their patients any more. Touch just isn’t there. Years ago massage was a big part of nursing. There was so much care, so much touch, so much goodness conveyed through massage. Now nurses for the most part are as busy as physicians. They’re writing charts, dealing with insurance notes, they’re doing procedures and often there is no room for massage any more. I believe massage therapy is absolutely key in the healing process not only in the hospital environment but because it relieves stress, it is obviously foundational in the healing process any time and anywhere.

How Does ACC work with Acupuncture?

Have you injured yourself and wondering how Acupuncture can support your recovery?

Once you have registered with ACC through your Doctor (or physiotherapist) then you will receive a claim number, commonly called an ACC45 number. With this, you are then eligible for acupuncture treatment.

The treatment is an excellent way to ensure that you have the best recovery. You will be assessed and treated with acupuncture, moxibustion and tuina (chinese massage). You are able to have acupuncture treatment concurrently with physiotherapy or other treatment, yet not on the same day.

For a quality treatment and assessment, get in touch via our contact page or make a booking online.

Here is the recent article written for The Yoga Lunch Box about the Mooncup

If you’re anything like me, you may never have heard of the Mooncup – despite it being the best method of collecting menstrual blood out there.

I was 25 years old before I heard of it, and I have to wonder why?

Is it because women just don’t talk about what they use during their periods?

Or is it because we’re still squeamish about a monthly bodily function?

Our squeamishness about our bodies and unwillingness to share information is denying us something wonderful.

Acupressure Course

Thanks to everyone who attended our acupressure course last night at the Yoga For You studio. It was a great night with pregnant women and their partners along with some midwives from Barrington midwives and Pavrita from the yoga studio joined us too. I have just attended the Acupuncture Conference in Wellington and after meeting with Debra Betts and hearing her talk I felt a lot of inspiration to run our workshop! We look forward to running another one in around 2 months. Lori-Ellen. June 28, 2011.
